Shaxpir Has Been Shut Down

It's done.

As of 11:59pm Pacific Time on May 5, 2026, Shaxpir is officially closed. The login servers have been turned off, and the application is no longer available. After eleven years, this chapter has come to an end.

I want to thank everyone who wrote with me here. Over the past few months, as I've worked through my support inbox, I've heard from so many of you about the books you finished, the stories you started, the notes you kept, and the characters you grew to love. Some of you have been with Shaxpir since the very beginning. Some of you found it more recently. All of you trusted me with your words, and I'll always be grateful for that!

What Happens Now

Database Archive: I'm keeping an archive of the database for six months (until November 5, 2026), in case anyone has an emergency and needs to recover something. If you missed the export deadline and need help retrieving your work, please email me at support@shaxpir.com and I'll do my best to help you. On November 5, 2026, the archive will be deleted forever, and the support email address will be terminated.

This Website: The shaxpir.com website will remain online as a kind of memorial, a record of what we built here, the guidebook articles I wrote, and the blog posts that tracked the journey from beginning to end. If you want to come back and look around, the door is still open!

When I started building Shaxpir, I wanted to make a tool that honored the act of writing. I don't know if I succeeded the way I hoped to, but I know that real writers used it to do real creative work, and that's something I'll carry with me.

To everyone who showed up here and wrote, thank you. Keep writing, wherever you go next. You have a story in your heart. You have a tale to tell...
